Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and OneBlock ("OneBlock," "we," "us"), the developer of the OneBlock mobile application and the website joinoneblock.com (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, signing in, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. What OneBlock Is, and Is Not

OneBlock is a private network for the verified residents of a single neighborhood or community. Inside your community, the Service shows a map of the homes on your street and who has joined from each one, profiles of your neighbors and their households, shared-interest matches, a community calendar with events and clubs, resident-to-resident and group chat, a board where neighbors post and ask for help, polls, a directory of local businesses neighbors recommend, announcements from your HOA board, and an alert any resident can send to the whole street.

OneBlock is not your HOA, your management company, or any form of government. We do not set, interpret, or enforce your community's rules, and an announcement or poll posted by a board member inside the app is that board's statement, not ours. Board status in OneBlock is a flag we set at a community's request; nothing in the app verifies that the person holding it was elected to anything. We do not verify anything neighbors post. Recommendations, ratings, event details, business listings, offers of help, and claims about people or property are written by residents, and we do not check them for accuracy.

2. Not an Emergency Service

The Service includes a feature that lets a resident send an alert to their community. It is not an emergency service and is not monitored by us or by anyone else. It sends a notification to phones that may be off, silenced, out of battery, without signal, or set to ignore that category. Delivery is never guaranteed.

An alert reaches every resident of your community except you, at high priority, and once sent you cannot take it back: only a board member can remove it. Send one only about something real and current.

In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number. Never rely on OneBlock to summon help, to warn you of danger, or to reach anyone in time. Do not use the alert feature in place of contacting police, fire, medical services, animal control, or a utility.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create and hold a OneBlock account. The Service is intended for use in the United States. By using the Service you represent that you meet these requirements.

Children and other members of your household do not get accounts. If you choose to list them on your household, you are doing so as an adult resident and section 7 applies.

4. Your Account

You may create an account using an email address and password, Google, or Apple. You agree to provide accurate information, to keep your credentials secure, and to accept responsibility for everything done under your account. One account belongs to one person: do not share it with anyone, including other members of your household.

You may delete your account at any time in the app (Settings, then "Delete my account"). Deletion is permanent and works as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

5. Your Join Code, and What Verification Means

Joining a community requires a signup code. Each code is issued for one specific home, opens only that home, and stops working the moment it is used. OneBlock generates the codes and gives them to your board or community administrator to hand out. A code has no expiry date, so a lost or misdelivered card stays live until it is replaced: tell your board, and ask us or them to reset that home's code.

Do not share, post, resell, or forward your code. A code is the only thing standing between a stranger and your neighbors' addresses, household details, and conversations. By entering a code you represent that you actually live at the home it was issued for, and that you are entitled to join that community. Claiming a home you do not live at is a violation of these Terms and we may remove your account for it.

Verification means a person entered a valid code for a specific address and confirmed it is theirs. It is not a background check, an identity check, or a guarantee that any neighbor is who they say they are, is safe, or is honest. Use the same judgment with a neighbor on OneBlock that you would use with a neighbor you met at the mailbox.

6. Price

The Service is currently free. We may introduce paid features in the future; if we do, we will present their terms before you pay for anything.

7. Your Content and Your Household

You keep ownership of what you write and post. By posting, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to store, display, and transmit that content to other verified residents of your community in order to operate the Service, and to use it as needed to run, support, and improve the Service. That license ends when the content is deleted or expires, except where a copy has to persist in backups for a short period.

Much of what you post clears itself automatically. Chat messages delete themselves fourteen days after they are sent, and posts, asks, announcements, polls, and alerts clear on the same fourteen-day clock unless your board pins them. An event, its RSVPs, and its chat delete themselves once the event is over and the conversation about it has aged out. Do not treat OneBlock as a record of anything. If you need to keep something, keep it somewhere else. Deleting your account does not pull everything you ever wrote back out of your community either; the Privacy Policy sets out exactly what goes and what stays with your name removed.

If you list household members, including children, you are choosing to share their first name, their relation to you, and their age with the other verified residents of your community. You represent that you have the authority to share that information, and that any adult you list has agreed to it. You can remove a household member at any time in the app. Do not list anyone who does not live with you.

You represent that what you post is yours to post, is accurate to the best of your knowledge, and does not violate anyone's rights.

The private-profile setting limits what the app shows your neighbors about you. Read the Privacy Policy for what it does and does not do before relying on it.

8. Acceptable Use

Your community is a small group of people who know where each other live. That raises the stakes on all of this. You agree not to:

• harass, threaten, stalk, intimidate, defame, or impersonate anyone, on or off the Service;
• post anything about a neighbor, their household, or their home that they have not chosen to share themselves, and never anything about a child other than your own;
• copy, export, screenshot for redistribution, scrape, bulk-download, or systematically extract residents' names, addresses, household details, contact information, or posts, or feed any of it to another service, a mailing list, a data broker, or an AI training set;
• use what you learn on OneBlock for commercial solicitation, political canvassing, debt collection, litigation research, tenant or applicant screening, or any purpose unrelated to being a neighbor;
• claim a home you do not live at, share or post a signup code, or help anyone who does not live in your community get access to it;
• post commercial listings or advertising as a resident, other than a genuine recommendation of a local business;
• misuse the alert feature, including sending an alert that is not a real, current concern to your street;
• post content that is unlawful, sexually explicit, hateful, or that sexualizes or endangers a minor;
• interfere with, probe, or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure, or attempt to reach data belonging to a community you are not a member of;
• reverse engineer or copy the app except where the law permits it; or
• use the Service in any manner that violates applicable law.

Violating this section can get your account removed without notice, and some of it can get you sued by the person you harmed.

9. HOA Boards and Moderation

Residents marked as board members in your community can delete any content in that community, including yours; are the only residents who can post announcements and polls; and can pin something so it stops expiring. They cannot edit what you wrote, except for events and clubs, which they can correct. When a board member removes someone else's content, the removed text is kept in an internal log their fellow board members can read. Any resident can send an alert, and once sent, an alert can only be removed by a board member, not by the person who sent it. Deletions by a board member are recorded in an internal moderation log visible to board members of that community. We give boards these powers as a feature of the Service; we do not supervise how a board uses them, and a board's decisions are its own. Disagreements about your community's rules belong with your board.

To report content or conduct, email hello@joinoneblock.com. There is no in-app report button yet, so that address is the way to reach us, and we read it. Tell us the community, what you saw, and where.

We may remove content, remove an account from a community, or terminate an account ourselves, at our discretion, when we believe these Terms have been violated or when removal is necessary to protect residents. We have no obligation to review, monitor, or moderate content, and in most cases will not have seen it before someone tells us.

10. Businesses, Recommendations, and Ratings

Residents can add local businesses and rate them. Those listings and ratings are neighbors' opinions and neighbors' data entry. We do not vet, endorse, license-check, insure, or guarantee any business, professional, or service listed in the app, and we are not a party to anything you arrange with one. Check credentials yourself.

11. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on third parties to work, including Supabase for accounts and data, Apple and Google for sign-in and for delivering notifications, Expo's push service, Cloudflare for hosting, OpenFreeMap for map tiles, PostHog for anonymous analytics, and Loops for email. We do not control them, and their services are provided to us and to you "as is." Map tiles and their data belong to their providers. The Service's own design, code, text, and compilation are owned by OneBlock and protected by applicable intellectual-property law. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on your devices for your own use as a resident.

You agree to indemnify and hold OneBlock harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from what you post, what you do with information you learned through the Service, your conduct toward another resident, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right in connection with your use of the Service.

15. Apple App Store and Google Play

If you downloaded the app from Apple's App Store, the following applies: these Terms are between you and OneBlock, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. In the event the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund any purchase price (there is none for a free app); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for addressing claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, and consumer protection claims, or third-party intellectual-property claims. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo and are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of the app must also comply with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

If you downloaded the app from Google Play, your use must also comply with the Google Play Terms of Service.

16. Changes to the Service and These Terms

We may modify or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time. We may update these Terms; if we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and take reasonable steps to notify you, such as an in-app notice. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

17. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at hello@joinoneblock.com and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for 30 days. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable consumer rights under the law of your state of residence.

18. General

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and OneBlock regarding the Service. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a transfer of the Service.
